Asian games have always been the much awaited event as far as the sporting world goes. Bringing out the best in the world of sports from the Asian continent, the Asian games are considerably at par with the other events like the commonwealth etc.

The 16th Asian Games or the XVI Asiad is around the peak again and is scheduled to be hosted by Guangzhou in China. The event will be over two weeks from November 12th to November 27th 2010. China will host this event for the second time as it has already been given the pleasure of hosting this event in 1990 in Beijing. Asian games will bring about the contest of 42 different sports among all the countries of the Asian continent. Also this is the first time when such a large number of sports have been included hence the Asian Games this season is a huge event as far as the sporting world is considered.

This 16th Asian Games has also brought with itself the introduction of 1st ever Asian Para Games which will be at the same hosting city but after the gap of two weeks to accommodate all the required facilities. Hence, as far as the 16th Asian games go, they have had a great influence on the existing pattern of Asian games till date.

For the 16th Asian games, four cities out forward their bid for hosting among them were Amman, Guangzhou, Kuala Lumpur and Seoul. Sooner or later all the other countries except Guangzhou withdrew their bid and finally Guangzhou was declared the winner of the bid.

The emblem of the Asian games this time has been a stylized goat which according to the Chinese heritage is a symbol of blessings to foster people luck. It also represents Guangzhou as it is referred to as the city of goats.

So the games are indeed filled with fervor and a lot of manifested enthusiasm among the people.
