NATIONAL DEFENCE ACADEMY & NAVAL ACADEMY EXAMINATION (II), 2011

F.No. 7/1/2011-E.I(B) : An Examination will be conducted by the Union Public Service Commission on 21st August, 2011 for admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the NDA for the 128th Course, and for the 90th Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC) commencing from June 2012. The candidates Joining Indian Naval Academy would undergo 4 years B.Tech Course and would be given an opportunity to join Executive and Technical Branches of the Navy subject to availability of vacancies.

The approximate number of vacancies to be filled on the results of this examination will be 335 [(195 for the Army, 39 for Navy, 66 for the Air Force and 35 for Indian Naval Academy (10+2 cadet Entry Scheme)]. Vacancies are provisional and may be changed depending on the availability of training capacity of National Defence Academy.

CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY :

(a) Nationality : A candidate must either be :

(i) a citizen of India, or

(ii) a subject of Bhutan, or

(iii) a subject of Nepal, or

(iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or

(v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. Certificate of eligibility will not, however, be necessary in the case of candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal.

(b) Age Limits, Sex and Marital Status :

Only unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd July, 1993 and not later than 1st January, 1996 are eligible.

(c) Educational Qualifications :

(i) For Army wing of National Defence Academy :- 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

(ii) For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy :- 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equilvalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

Candidates who are appearing in the 12th Class under the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination can also apply for this examination.

FEE :

(a) Candiates applying Online (excepting SC/ST candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay a reduced fee of Rs. 50/- (Rupees Fifty only) either by remitting the money in any Branch of SBI by cash, or by using net banking facility of SBI or by using Visa/ Master Credit/Debit Card.

(b) (i) Candidates applying Offline (through Common Application Form) are required to pay a fee of Rs. 100/- (Rupees One Hundred only) through a single Central Recruitment Fee Stamp. Central Recruitment Fee Stamp (NOT postage stamp) of the requisite denomination may be obtained from the post office and affixed on the Application Form in the space provided therein. The stamp must be got cancelled from the issuing Post Office with the date stamp of the post office in such a manner that the impression of the cancellation mark partially overflows on the Application Form itself but within the space provided on the Application Form itself. The impression of the cancellation mark should be clear and distinct to facilitate the identification of date and the Post Office of issue.

HOW TO APPLY:

(a) Candidates may apply Online by using the website http://www.upsconline.nic.in Detailed instructions for filling up online applications are available on the above mentioned website.

(b) Candidates may also apply offline in the Common Application Form devised by the Commision for its examinations which can be processed on computerised machines. This Application Form alongwith an Information Brochure containing general instructions for filling up the Form, an Acknowledgement Card and an envelope for sending the application will be obtainable from the designated Head Post Offices/Post Offices throughout the country as listed in Appendix-III of Notice against cash payment of Rs. 30/- (Rupees thirty only). Form should be purchased from the designated Head Post Offices/Post Offices only and not from any other agency. This Form can be used only once and for only one examination. Candidates who wish to apply offline must use the Form supplied with the Information Brochure only and they should in no case use photocopy/reproduction/unautho-risedly printed copy of the Form. Since this Form is electronically scanned, due care should be taken to fill up the Application Form, correctly. While filling up the Application Form, please refer to detailed instructions given in Appendix-II

LAST DATE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS :

(a) Online

The Online Applications can be filled upto 9th May, 2011 till 11.59 PM after which the link will be disabled.

(b) Offline

(i) The completed Offline Application Form must reach the Controller of Examinations, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi-110069 on or before 9th May, 2011. (ii) In respect of Offline applications received only by post (by post/speed post) from candidates from Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Jammu & Kashmir, Lahaul and Spiti District and Pangi Sub-Division of Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands or Lakshadweep or abroad, the last date for receipt of applications is 16th May, 2011.

About National Defense Academy (NDA) 

The National Defense Academy is a joint service academy where cadets of three wings of armed forces (Army, Navy and Air Force), receives their basic training before they can opt for their pre-commission training for their respective academy. It is situated at Khadakwasla, Pune covering huge area around 8,300 acres.

Cadets for National Defense Academy are selected through an entrance exam conducted by Union Public Service Commission. This exam is being conducted twice every year mostly in month of April and in month of September. There are certain criterions should be satisfied by all candidates wishing to apply for exam. Those are:-

An Applicant must be a citizen of India/ a subject of Bhutan or Nepal/ A Tibetan refugee who is living in Indian since or before January 1, 1962 with intention of permanently settling in India/ a person of Indian origin and has migrated with intention of permanently settling in India from any one of below mentioned country:-

An applicant must be unmarried male with age ranging between 16 and half years to 19 years i.e. a candidate must not have completed 19 years on or 1st January or 1st July of that year. A candidate must not marry until the training is complete.

The basic education is required for all wings is 12th pass, however Air Force and Navy requires 12th pass certificate taking Physics and Mathematics.

A candidate should be physically and mentally fit and must be having minimum height of 157.5 cms and 162.5 for Air Force.

The candidate is required to give his service preferences at the time of applying. But final decision also depends upon scores and rank he secures in examination. 

 was started being conducted in 1927 by British Government, to select officers to who could help them in railway affairs. Nowadays Special Class Railway Apprentice includes those few candidates who get selected by Union Service Public Commission through a very rigorous selection process. Applicants apply for this exam to undergraduate program in Mech. Engineering at Indian Railway Institution of Medical and Electrical Engineering.  As this test is being conducted since 1927, it is one of the oldest examinations in India. The SCRA written exam is conducted for 600 marks in following subjects: -

Mathematics

General Ability test (Which includes English, General Knowledge and Psychology Test)

Physical Science (Chemistry and Physics)

This is the one part of examination. In next part, personality test is carried out. It carries 200 marks and only those candidates appear for this exam that clears their written test successfully. Basically personality test is nothing but an interview which is conducted at its main office in New Delhi. A panel consisting about 6 to 8 officers questions candidate on science and general knowledge. The selection rate for this exam is less than 1 in per 10,000. The few candidates, who are selected, get training in Mechanical Engineering. They get trained by both methods, practical and theoretical.

Selected candidates get free education and also get a monthly stipend. The selected students stay at Jamalpur gymkhana and get their training at IRIMEE. Candidates get rigorous training for four years in Mechanical Engineering. IRIMEE has signed a memorandum with BIT, Ranchi, and BIT, Mesra. It follows semester system of BIT, Mesra. In holidays, workshop training session is kept at BIT, Mesra. In old days, selected candidates were sent to UK, but this is no more condition in current days; so there is a common misconception that they will get training in UK, which is NOT TRUE.
