Indian Forest Service (IFS) Examination Pattern Syllabus
UPSC IFS Examination is one of the toughest competetative examination in the country. Candidates who wish to apply for this exam must prepare in advance and go through all aspects of IFS Exam 2011.
IFS Examination Pattern: The UPSC IFS Exam pattern consists of written test and interview for those selected in the written test.

Optional Papers: Candidates have to choose two subjects and each subjects have two papers of 8 questions and you need to answer 5 questions in three hours.

About Indian Forest Service (IFS) Examination
India has a dense forest with endangered species of animals with all natural wealth in the forest. But unfortunately people destroying the natural ecosystem. To preserve the natural wealth of forest, Indian Government earlier set an All India Service act in 1966 in order to conserve our natural life. Government has considered an order to preserve our wild life. For that government need a top level officer to execute it on different part of the country. Just like other civil services exam conducted by UPSC i.e. IAS, IPS government has come forward to conduct service for Indian Forest Service. For getting an IFS position one have to undergo examination conducted by UPSC. In order to protect and conserve Natural Resource.
Union Public Service Commission Conduct IFS Exam annually. Notification published generally in February month and exam held mostly in July. UPSC declared online application form to be submitted 15th March 2010.Offline application should reach the head office New Delhi before 22nd March 2010. Candidate should posses Bachelor degree in Science or else degree in one of the subject like Zoology, Botany, Geology, Vetenary Science, Animal Husbandry or a degree in agriculture, Engineering or Forestry. He/she should between ages of 21 to 30. Very challenging and live career of Indian Forest Service with natural touch environment candidates prefer to make a future in this stream for that they die hard to prepare for exam. Exam Pattern is generally consist of Part I. General English in which they should understand writing skill of English. Part II. General Knowledge which asks questions in detail about current affairs, personal observation questions, science related one even questions from politics, history of India, Geography for that they have to answer by own. Then last Part III. Which is optional, one can select any subject from fourteen mention subjects. All together marks carry is 1400. Once they qualify from written exam they have to sit for Interview in which question from current affairs, geography and forest issues, wildlife, cultural issues of community. Then enthusiast candidates select for training Programme at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration at Massourie after completion of programme they will be put into four years probation period as Assistant Conservator of Forest. After that they appoint for different state of India according to their posting, as Deputy Conservator of Forest or Divisional Forest Officer. According to their progress and hard working they can reach to Director General of forest. Once they come into field for Service they have to manage forest and wildlife, soil Conservation, about forest community and weapons, environment balance and survey and they have to keep track of all records. The Rewarding role of IFS is to manage country’s Forest and wildlife. To be proud with our country’s progress i.e. India is the first countries to start Scientific Management of forest.
