2010 Commonwealth Games
The 2010 Commonwealth Games is the 19th edition in Commonwealth Games and it’s the 9th to be held under this name. The Games are planned to be held in Delhi in India in 3rd to 14th October 2010. It will be the biggest multi-sport event organized till date in Delhi and India. The opening ceremony will take place at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi. It’s the first time that Commonwealth Games will be in India (Second time in Asia after 1998 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia).
Venues
The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is reconstructed for 2010 Commonwealth Games The existing stadium and the new stadium will be used during the Games.
• Delhi University sports complex – Rugby sevens
• Dhyan Chand National Stadium – Hockey
• Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range – Shooting
• Indira Gandhi Arena – Archery, cycling, gymnastics, wrestling
• Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi – Weightlifting
• RK Khanna Tennis Complex – Tennis
• Siri Fort Sports Complex – Badminton, Squash
• SPM Swimming Pool Complex – Aquatics
• Talkatora Stadium – Boxing
• Thyagaraj Stadium – Netball
• Yamuna Sports Complex – Table tennis
26 new stadiums will be used for 2010 Commonwealth Games. Some old ones will be reconstructed and some new will be built.
Green Games
The 2010 Commonwealth Games Logo is accepted as first ever "Green Commonwealth Games" The organizers have signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with United Nations Environment Program to host a "sustainable games".
