The Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research and the related National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) are a group of premier institutes being created by the Government of India, through the Ministry of Human Resource Development (India) (MHRD), to promote education and research in the sciences.
The first batch of around 80 students for integrated MS courses have already been admitted to the institutes at Kolkata and Pune, as well as NISER. Almost double number of students were admitted in the second batch. These students were selected through the highly competitive IIT-JEE. Furthermore, some students were selected from the IISc's KVPY and the Olympiad student list.[2] Students qualifying any of the following examinations will be eligible for admission-
Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY)
IITJEE - Those who feature in the regular merit list.
As of 2009 Admissions, the IISERs will not be accepting students who qualify through the olympiad route. Intake will only be through KVPY and IIT-JEE, for the batch of 2009.
From 2010 onwards IISER's are also taking in students who score well in their board exams.
