Admission Notification: 2011 – 12

The University invites applications for five years integrated B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) and B.B.A.LL.B (Hons.) Degree Programmes & Conjoint LL..M – Ph.D Program for the academic year 2011- 2012, commencing on 11th July, 2011.

B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) and B.B.A.LL.B (Hons.) Undergraduate Degree Programmes:

ELIGIBILITY : Senior Secondary School Examination (10+2 system) or equivalent examination with not less than 50% marks in aggregate. (SC / ST candidates can apply with 45% marks). Those who have appeared for the qualifying examination in March / April, 2011 may also apply).

AGE LIMIT : Below 21 years as on 1st August, 2011 (23 years in case of SC/ST candidates)

TOTAL SEATS : 60 seats each for B.A.LL.B. (Hons) & B.B.A. LL.B (Hons.)

CATEGORY : General 78, Scheduled Tribes-14, Scheduled Castes-10, Persons with disabilities-4, Foreign Nationals-4, NRI/NRI Sponsored-10. Total Seats : 120

Admission Test Question Paper pattern for B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) and B.B.A.LL.B (Hons.): The NLUO Admission Test for the session 2011-12 will test students in his/her knowledge on current affairs, skill in critical analytical thinking, logical analysis and numerical ability. Past academic record is relevant only for purposes of eligibility. The test is designed to determine general cognitive ability and its articulation; abilities NLUO considers essential for its rigorous academic programmes. The entrance test will be of 200 Marks.

Eligibility Condition: Applications will be entertained only on the applicant fulfilling the following criteria:

1. Applicant must have secured minimum of 50% aggregate marks (45% for SC/ST applicants) in 10+2 or equivalent examinations. Applicant’s awaiting results of the qualifying examination can also appear for the test on the condition that they produce proof of having passed the qualifying examination with the prescribed marks at the time of admission.

2. Applicant must be below 21 years as on 1st August 2011 (23 years in case of SC /ST Candidates).

3. Eligible candidates should apply in the prescribed form no later than 10th May, 2011.

4. Applicant must provide complete and accurate information in the Application Form. Failure to furnish all supporting credentials or the furnishing of incorrect information may invalidate admission and registration. Applicants should retain copies of all items submitted as part of the admission application.

Conjoint LL.M – Ph.D Degree Program:

NLUO invites applications from the law graduates for direct admissions to its unique Ph.D program with substantial research stipends.

ELIGIBILITY : Candidate should have passed B.A.LL.B. /LL.B. /B.L. degree or an equivalent degree from a recognized University and must have secured at least 60% of marks in the aggregate of the maximum marks prescribed. Candidates awaiting results of the qualifying examination can also appear for the test on the condition that they will have to produce at the time of admission proof of having passed the qualifying examination with the prescribed marks.

TOTAL SEATS : 5 seats

ADMISSION PROCEDURE: Candidates for LL.M.-Ph.D. course shall be selected by the Admission Committee, based on a combined assessment of:

a) The performance at the admission test conducted by the National Law University, Orissa; on 22nd May, 2011 at multiple test centres across India and

b) Performance at the interview to determine the aptitude for higher studies and research in Law.

Admission Test Question Paper pattern for Conjoint LL.M – Ph.D Degree Program:

The entrance test for LL.M.-Ph.D. programme will be of 200 marks. The test will consist of multiple choice questions, short answer type questions, and two long answer type questions essentially related to Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence, Teaching and Research Aptitude and ability in language and communication.

Date of Entrance Test: National Law University, Orissa will independently conduct its own test on 22nd May, 2011 across multiple test centres in India.

Duration of the Entrance Test: The time duration of the Entrance Test will be of two and half hour that is from 03.00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Admission Test Centres: NLUO Admission Test will be conducted at the following Test Centres.

About National Law University, Orissa
National Law University, Orissa (NLUO) is the newest addition to the list of the National Law Universities in India. It is located at Cuttack, Orissa. The university offers courses for undergraduate and graduate legal education.

Its first session began in 2009; classes started from 20 July 2009. The first batch is 120 students, 60 each in BBA LLB and BA LLB. The university offers to have streams of BSc LLB and BCA LLB in the following years. The present temporary buildings of the university consist of a six-storey hostel and a three-floor academic building. The university plans to shift to its new campus the next session. The new campus has an area of 30 acres (120,000 m2) already sanctioned and 20 more acres to be given soon by the Orissa government. The formal inaugural function of the university was on 31 October 2009. It was inaugurated by the Chief Justice of India, Justice K.G. Balakrishnan in the presence of the Chief Minister of Orissa, Shri Naveen Pattnaik. The Orissa government's law minister and the higher education minister were also present along with the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court Mr. Quddusi and the former vice chancellor of National Law Schools of Bangalore and Jodhpur Mr. N.L. Mitra. The first vice chancellor of the NLUO is Prof. Dr. Faizan Mustafa.
