MTech (Clinical Engineering)
Eligibility:
B.E./B.Tech./Recognized appropriate four year course; on the basis of GATE subject (AE, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, IN, IT, ME, MN, MT, PI, TF, XE) and score. Please note that XL that was eligible until May 2010 admissions, will no longer be eligible since BT is now available.
MTech (with specialization)
Eligibility:
1) Bachelor's degree in Engineering /Technology /Architecture or equivalent, or Master's degree in Chemistry/Mathematics/ Physics/Life Sciences or related subjects or Professional qualification like AMIE or any other Associate membership as specified in the M.Tech Admission website (http://gate.iitm.ac.in/mtech_admissions) and
2) Qualified in GATE 2010 or 2011
Candidates graduating/graduated with B.Tech. Degree from IITs with CGPA of 7.5 and above for SC/ST category and 8.0 and above for others can apply without GATE score. Seats are reserved for SC/ST/OBC/Persons with Disabilities as per Gol rules.
Assistantship: Candidates admitted to M.Tech. programme are offered Half-time Teaching Assistantship (HTTA) of Rs.8000/ -p.m. Admission to a few additional candidates who are under merit list may also be offered without HTTA. They may get HTTA after 6 months depending upon vacancy. A limited number of selected candidates will get opportunity to do M.Tech. Project in Germany under DAAD fellowship scheme. Under Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) Graduate Fellowship Scheme, two candidates will be selected either from Mechanical Engineering (only in Design and Thermal Engineering) or Chemical Engineering discipline or from both and they will be offered a monthly stipend of Rs.20,000/- for two years with a one time educational material allowance of Rs.5,000/-. About IIT Madras
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is an engineering and technology school in Chennai (formerly Madras) in southern India. Recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India, it is regarded as one of the finest engineering institutions in India. Founded in 1959 with technical and financial assistance from the Government of the erstwhile West Germany, IIT Madras is third among currently fifteen Indian Institutes of Technology (including 6 new IITs started in 2008 and 2 more in 2009) established by the Government of India through an Act of Parliament, to provide education and research facilities in engineering and technology.
IIT Madras is a residential institute that occupies a 2.5 km² (620 acres) campus that was formerly part of the adjoining Guindy National Park. The institute has nearly 360 faculty, 6,000 students and 1,250 administrative and supporting staff. Growing ever since it obtained its charter from the Indian Parliament in 1961, Much of the spectacular campus is a protected forest, carved out of the Guindy National Park, and still remains home to chital (spotted deer), black buck, and other wildlife. A natural lake, deepened in 1988 & 2003, drains most of its rainwater.
